CSM FAQ - Communication
6.1 Q: What kind of interface is needed to connect to the CSM Link?A
A: Either you need a USB or a serial com port. The CSM Link is delivered in 2 versions one with USB and one with RS232 output.
6.2 Q: What is the maximum distance allowed for the wireless communication?
A: Up to 10m in free space. Walls etc. reduce the range.
6.3 Q: Does the CSM and the CSM Link have to point at each other?
A: No, the wireless transmission is made using radio frequencies, so both devices just have to be inside the transmit/receive range.
6.4 Q: Will the transmission be disturbed if a person stands between the CSM and CSM Link?
A: No, that will not disturb the transmission.
6.5 Q: Is the transmission made with the Bluetooth system?
A: No, but it uses the same frequency band (Industrial – Scientific – medical (ISM) band 2,4GHz).
6.6 Q: Does Bluetooth interfere with CSM transmission?
A: No, interferences during CSM transmission are avoided using “frequency hopping”.
6.7 Q: Can I connect my PDA via Bluetooth to the CSM?
A: No, the wireless transmission is made as a point – point communication and can only communicate with the CSM Link.
6.8 Q: Is it possible to make the CSM automatically connect to the same CSM Link continuously?
A: Yes, in the CSM MK2 it is possible to choose a fixed link.
Set AutoLNK to inactive connect to the wanted link.
Choose CSM Link serial number that appears below active in the AutoLNK option.

6.9 Q: Is it possible to make the CSM automatically connect to the closest CSM Link?
A: Yes, in the CSM MK2 it is possible automatically to connect to the CSM Link closest to the CSM.
Set AutoLNK to active and the CSM automatically connects to a CSM Link that is within approx. 3 metres from the CSM.

6.10 Q: Can the CSM Link for Philips VOI be used as a standard CSM Link, i.e. be controlled from the CSM Link software?
A: No, the CSM Link for Philips VOI is DEDICATED to operate with the Philips Patient monitor and CAN NOT be used as a regular CSM Link.
6.11 Q: Can the CSM dispenser be used as a standard CSM Link, i.e. be controlled from the CSM Link software?
A: No, the CSM dispenser is DEDICATED to operate the Session code functions in the CSM M2 monitor and CAN NOT be used as a regular CSM Link.
